I'm Not A Cynic. Really.

"If a man we don't know phones us up one day and talks a little, makes no suggestions, says nothing special, but nevertheless pays us the kind of attention we rarely receive, we’re quite capable of going to bed with him that same night feeling relatively in love. That’s what we women are like, and there's nothing wrong with that - it's the nature of the female to open herself to love easily.”
The Witch of Portobello

Maybe a tad too easily? I swear. One more time I hear a certain someone telling me she's found the love of her life, I'm gonna run screaming down Scotts Road in CK undies in front of every expat in town.

I'm sorry. I can't take it anymore.

I just don't understand how you can have the audacity to declare to the world that he's your 1TL when the next day you're telling me that you guys are breaking up because of some minor issue.

The worst part is the part where you expect me to be all comforting and shit. Come on, you spent the past few weeks telling me what a gem he is, how he's the best you ever had. Girl, I can't just turn around and say "yeah he's an assjob" after you have led me to believe that he's the best thing to ever happen to you. Because no matter what, I was genuinely happy for you when you were happy with that dude. I have made myself feel all these good things about your man.. and suddenly he's a bastard? That's just weird, mate. You're my friend, but I can't switch my feelings on and off like that.

Or maybe the worst part is the part where the cycle repeats itself. The part where the next random guy who comes along becomes your soulmate in less than a month. I don't know. All I know is, you need to stop cheating me of my feelings. I'm tired of keeping up with your flamboyant emotions.

Ever heard of the boy in striped YSL pajamas who cried wolf? That's who I think of whenever you tell me you've found Mr Right. How many "The One"s can you have before others stop taking your love life seriously?

Eurgh.

I can't stand being a girl sometimes. We can be so deluded, it's unbelievable. I feel suffocated just hearing about some people and their dead-end relationships. Why do we always have that teeny bit of hope that the guy will change for the better? If he's an ass, he's an ass. No two ways about it. BUT NO... we'll always have that nagging voice in our heads that says "Aww c'mon give him another chance! After all, he did give you flowers!"

Yeah. Like, once.

The thing is, half the time, we're not blind to the faults of our (lovable?) douchesacks. We do see the egregious flaws, but for some reason we still choose to be lenient. We ALLOW these people with defective chromosomes to walk all over us and treat us like crap. We got no one to blame but ourselves.

Maybe I shouldn't say 'we'. It's them. Coz I've never been like that. Sure I've put up with more than a few unforgivable faults. And I've been pretty cool with people like the Tanker and all his jerkish ways (minus the fact that he had such a usable hot bod created for divine purposes). But the difference between me and 95% of my female compatriots is, that I wasn't in it for love, marriage or any of that shit. There was nary a "forever" encoded in those relationships.

It doesn't matter what my man of the moment does coz honestly, I don't really care. I never found the need to get used to his habits or whatever coz hey, I wasn't setting myself up for "the rest of my life". Why can't we just go with the flow, women? If by some amazing chance it works out, then awesomeballs. But if it doesn't, WHATthefuckEVER.

For most of the girls I know personally, though, they're leaping into relationships with so much expectation after the first wave of romance. And then they get bouts of depression when things don't go well. I find it hard to keep up with their statuses. I mean, there are only so many times you can break up and make up until your friends stop giving a shit about your 'depression'. And when we don't put that much weight into your sadness anymore, you start saying that we don't care, that we're not true friends, etc.

Whatever, bitch.

And I get thoroughly disappointed when you start blaming yourself and all your imperfections for the failure of the relationship. It was just never meant to be, y'know? Unless you cheated on him, I don't know why you have to be so hard on yourself. If the stilettos don't fit, must we change the foot? NO. We look for another, hotter pair that does. And trust me there are lots of heels in the store.

I try to be as empathetic as I can whenever you tell me your world is falling apart, but you gotta understand that I'm there for you only because I care about you. Not because I enjoy having to adjust my state of mind to suit yours, like, once every few weeks/months.

And no, woman. I'm not jealous of you, nor of your cronies who have relationships as volatile as yours. There's nothing wrong with me being selective; it's my LIFE we're talking about here. You can be as free-spirited as you want but maybe, it'll be a good idea not to give your heart away so easily, eh? Just sayin'.

No. I'm not saying we shouldn't take risks and fall the fuck in love when it feels right. I mean, I've done it myself, too, the whole love gig. Love is cool, and this world needs more of it. But when you have that "feels right" emotion one too many damn times, then something should start feeling wrong.

I use a lot of "you"s in this post, but obvs, I wasn't referring to any of you guys. (Lest anyone feels slighted.)I meant the "you" for a specific friend that I have. It's annoying that I can't articulate what I said in this post to her, coz she'll want to kill herself and shit.

Wtf.

Thanks for this.

I've met girls like this too many times. I haven't set myself up "for the rest of my life" also, I see all the men I meet and have potential to date with mr.right now. The world "he's made for me" will send me run for the door, all the way down the hill before I throw myself in front of a bus.

It's always hard to follow someone who goes from one extreme to another. What you described are the normal emotional rollercoasters of teenagers.

Amen, sister! I agree with everything you said and I hate girls like that. A few of my friends are like that too and it drives me crazy. I've bought a few of them the book He's Just Not That Into You to try and open their eyes!

Been a long time since we heard of Tank's hot bod.... hahahaha.

I donno about our other races but it looks like our malay girls are the ones who like all this "forever" nonsense. So many of their blogs out there with big big pics of their muka-tak-seberapa bfs.

lol! I salute you so much.

Unfortunately, most of us are born with this weakness in relatnships. I hate it! My ex was horrible and I dont know how I put up with him for as long as did! The thought of him makes me wanna puke now.

@ Flaz: I know, right! Sad to say I know more than a few of those :p

Hahahahaha. Gotta agree- it's a very 'teenager' thing to do. Bta, you guys aren't teens anymore. Old nuff to think like real adults. I pity my female friends who act like this. Missin so much in life.

Oh so many things I love about this entry. First of all, I love this new angry side of you.

Secondly, I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAY, although I'm guilty of many of these things myself. Some kinda weird psychological thing that can't be shaken. My new approach is avoiding men altogether, which is working out remarkably well.

Thirdly, douchesack?! Amazing.

Haha. Angry post. I get that a lot too.. Few hrs on Skybe and the next moment all lovey dovey...

Nashe^ said...

@ Putra: Ever forever? ;)

@ Izan: Uh huh, being held back is so uncool.

@ Candice: LOL! HOW can you avoid them?? Sigh.

@ THB: Hahaha. I guess that's fine, but I hate those who make break-up announcements like every month. It gets tiring for listeners.

LOL!! I love this post.. is soooo true. And good thing you have a blog, otherwise you would probably be writing this on a piece of paper, and wouldn't be getting any support/comments back. It's kinda horrid you have to go through that. Get a bunch of MALE friends.. ^^

Nashe^ said...

@ Dilah: Surprising eh? lol

@ Ambar: There are not many males in my surroundings. So sad, right.
