It's a (Friggin') Small World After All.

Last night was woogly. The GFF and I sat deep inside our favourite bar, talking about the fate of our June holidays while waiting for our friend Tysha to show up. (I can't believe the GFF wants to fly off to Atlanta sans moi, but that's another story.) I was looking around for Tysha when I spotted a familiar face sitting a few tables away.

Lets call him Spongebob.

I've seen him around Clarke Quay during pub crawls. Always with the 'in' crowd, always partying up a storm, always buddies with a bartender or two.

He drives me silently nuts even if we've never spoken. He must have some kinda magnetic presence since I'm not willing to admit that he's kinda hot.

Oh by the way, Spongebob knows one of my aunts. I've seen them at the same margarita-laden table together a number of times (my 40-year old aunt is badass, yes). He's also chummy with like, five of my cousins. Talk about a small country? It's an even smaller party scene. So basically he knows a big branch of my family tree, but he doesn't know me.

ANYWAY.

Tysha finally arrived, right? And on the way to our nook, she stopped by Spongebob's table to say hi.
BISH ACTUALLY KNOWS SPONGEBOB, too!

It just keeps getting better, doesn't it.

Later, The GFF and I asked Tysha how she knew Spongebob. And apparently? He's been at almost every private party she's attended,
"so yeah, we know each other".

(Oh, did I mention how I got close to Tysha in the first place? She was a distant relative of mine, until I went to the GFF's place one afternoon and found her there, giving The GFF a neck massage. Apparently, they're colleagues. Turned friends.)

ANYWAY again, before Spongebob left, he came over to our table with his little clique to say bye to Tysha.

I wasn't nervous about talking to him or anything, but it felt weird. I mean, I've been noticing him for months, and now he's walking over to say hi/bye. But whatev.

How peachy of him to introduce his girlfriend to us. Yea. She's pretty, of course. Of course. Some high-flying rich partyhead with a great bod and perfect dimples, wearing Ferragamo. Figured.

The best part: his gorgeous girlfriend shares the same name as me. What are the odds?

(I told you it kept getting better. Let keep this bizarreness going, people...)

After all the general niceties, Spongebob looked at me and went "Hey I've seen you before!" Uhh, okay. I thought he was about to bring up my aunt/cousins or something but noooo... "Yeah, you're the one necking with the blue-eyed guy at *****, with the traffic lights!"

...Great. His (first?) impression of me is a wholly skanky one, complete with tri-coloured test-tube drinks. My head was spinning, and it wasn't the vodka. Dude, seriously? We've been in the same club/room more than five times but the only memory you have of me is 'that girl' making out with some "blue-eyed guy" after having test tube shots?

Someone LOL with me here; and find the moral of the story.

Maybe the moral is the first thing people will remember is the last thing we want them to!!! LOL

Or that guys will remember "sexual content" way before anything else. ahahaha!

Woozie said...

Well I lol'd pretty heartily, and I say the moral of the story is make everyone you see drink more and more so you can tell them later on, "Oh yeah, you were that guy that puked all over the pong table." Something like that, no?

And yes, if a man sees you doing something sexual and something non-sexual, odds are he'll remember the sexual. Trust me.

Oh wow, I'd be completely blushing and speechless if I were you.

And ohhhhh he sounds like a bunch of guys I have a crush on too. Wonder why I always am attracted to popular, gorgeous guys? Especially if they got style and power? I'm soooo cliche!!!

Jajajaja is just like in Puerto Rico. The country is so damn small that everybody knows/is related/dated/had sex/went to school/is neighbors with everybody. TRUE STORY.

Nashe^ said...

@ Rick: I'll never understand that!

@ Wooz: Wokay that seems a little hard for me to try. And yes, I trust you. LOL

@ Andhari: I knoowww, right?? Sometimes this whole Alpha-male shit stinks!

@ Ambar: HAHAHAHA yeah that's definitely the way things are around here! Can get pretty sad, eh.

It's amazing the way life operates. You see someone around and then they try to work themselves into your circle.. or you find out they've been in your outter circle all along.

I used to see a guy around all the time. My group would make fun of him and his friends (not so they could hear it, just bitching amongst ourselves)and then first day of Uni I end up sitting next to him.

He admitted his group used to make fun of us as well and not long after the two groups became one. I think we all made fun of each other because you know.. we were like.. social equals.. so you make fun of the things in them that you really hate about yourself.

At least that's what my shrink says.

Moral of the story... be on your best behaviour, Nashe!! Haha.

As your fellow singaporean, I rly know what you mean. Our network on FB is one of the most interlinked!

Nashe^ said...

@ ScoMan: That sort of stuff happened to me before, too, LOL. I think that was what made me stop being so judgemental/critical of others... :]

@ Flaz: There are just certain times & places you CAN'T be on your best behaviourm okay!

Nashe^ said...

@ Melroxx: xD

@ Masth: The difference is, we don't know what Shahrul/Eric's real names are, but I know this Spongebob's real name! So yeah... can't exactly think up another name when you already know, kan. LOL

Yeah, what Woozie said.

That was on the forefront of his mind. Unfortunately, he didn't have the good sense not to bring it up -- so he's a little lacking in social skills.

But I suspect he would hit that shit *chuckle*

according to alexandra burke:

yeah the bad boys are always catching my eye,
i said the bad boys are always spinning my mind...

the moral of the story, urm, necking is the new "in" terminology

Ricademus said...

From what I've heard, that "remembering sexual content first" only applies if the guy feels (or felt) some sort of attraction to the girl.

@ Bananas: Ahah yes I know you got yer own! :D

kind alike agree with RicAdeMus's opinion. Mostly, it applies if the guy interests w/the girl.

Honey Bee said...

Hahaha. It's happened to me too many times so I can completely relate.
I guess even if he remembered seeing you around in clubs, he probably had more fun referring to the one of you at the traffic signal.

i think even if he remembered you from elsewhere he mentioned this one time only because it stood out from the rest, and he knows it'll get to you

Nashe^ said...

@ Abby: Done.
