Don't knock it til you try it.
A recent conversation with a few friends got me a little excited. Too much to explain, but the topic involves us, Jakarta, partying, good accommodation, and 2010.
Can you feel my heart racing already?
I spoke to my mom about going. I got a flat no. Her limp defense:
1) I might get mugged. (I can get robbed in other countries, too, right?)
2) I will get mind-boned by the currency while shopping. (1SGD = 6000Rp) (SO WHAT!!)
3) There is nothing to "learn" in Indonesia. Specifically, JKT.
4) Anything I wanna do in Jakarta, I can do in Singapore. (Quite true, but WHO CARES)
5) I might bump into our Indo relatives who are at odds with my family. (Because that's SO probable, I'm sure)
6) I'll be disappointed if the city doesn't live up to my expectations.
She'd rather pay me to travel to Australia than see me go off to Indonesia, you know that?
Pish posh. I'll be 21 next year, and I'll do all I can to make her SEE that I'm old enough to make my own damn decisions. Will I be disappointed? Who the fuck knows, and who the fuck cares? Just LET me be disappointed on my own accord for once, nam sayin'? I'm not gonna write off the city before I step in it.
And dudes, I'm not expecting the world from that city, y'know. I just wanna BE there and check it out. I just feel like there are things there I have to see, and people there I have to meet.
Furthermore, if I do go, I'll be travelling with close friends. They ma homies, man. Which means that even if the surroundings suck, the company will make up for it.
Why must this be so hard?
PS;
the sexy bartender I told you guys about in the previous post? I found out that he's Chinese Indonesian! Way to go, Nash. Keep falling for people of that race, why don't you. An Indochinese working at Indochine.. Maybe there's a reason why it has been my favourite bar since the start.

you have to inform me whenever you get here in Jakarta. tell me. we can so meet-up. :)
i'm gonna hit you with the old "brick walls are there to see how much you want something..."
you'll get there one day, i know you will.
no comments about him being a Chindo.
The fuck? He's a Chindo?? How come no one told me? Siol Nash not another one!
-RD
hey.... you're not gonna go to JKT without me!? who's gonna throw water balloons to lolita? lol (we do it because we love you, Andie!)
I don't know the story behind 'chindo'(?), but i suppose we're always attracted to those of similar template. once my BFF told me that jared from Kings of Leon looked like an ex. arghhh no!!! then all the other guys that i've crushes on look somewhat like him.
point being, template. lol. but you know what, this bartender could be the total opposite of the other 'chindo'. like you said, you shouldnt write off a country without stepping on its ground :)
Go to Jakarta, sounds like an adventure and I'm sure it's more important to be in good company, not in a perfect location. Stand alone under the Eiffel tower in Paris, would it be fun? Prolly not. Be with your best buddies in down-town Jakarta? Tons of fun!
What? What? What? Your mom just insulted me. Lol.here are my responses to her concern :
1. Jakarta, esp. The south, is safer than even Kuala Lumpur and many other places she rather choose for you to go.
2. Currency can be learned and you"ll have me with you, so?:p
3. Actually a lot, hahaha. Jakarta is a way more complicated city and I'll show the ropes. Every part of the town is different.
4. Not really, we party harder in Jakarta. Ask your singaporean friends who go here a lot. And many hotter guys to pick up too :p you want hot chindo? I can give you a bucket of them in our clubs :p
5. The places here are too many for that to happen. You can tell me where they like to go and we'll avoid them if you want.
6. that won't be possible.
Not a justice to compare it with oz too babe, SO different. Jakarta can only be compared to other sea cities, and even we beat Bangkok in terms of awesomeness hahahahah
Come seriously, come meet me you can throw water baloons at me I don't care :D
@ Nitya: You'll be informed, don't worry! x)
@ Putra: I WILL, of course. Fuck this brick wall.
@ Rayan: Coz I kinda just found out lah ok! Not another one? Haha. But he's so sexy :(
@ Ejannz: We're so gonna burst into the clubs together and go "ZOMG I KNOW NDEESASTER!!" right? Whootz!
(Template, eh. I thought about it, and you're right. Btw my former Chindo was a great guy, hehe.)
@ Nino: Exactly! The company would be so important. :D
@ Miss Jakarta: What was that? I'm sorry, you got me stuck at "hot chindo" and "bucket of them". :p Thanks for getting me more hyped!
I forgot to add the point where my mom thinks Indo will be struck by an earthquake any moment. She doesn't like SEAsia, to be honest. That's where the whole OZ thing came in. She'd rather me go to a 'white' country than anywhere around SEA. BOO ME.
2010 ey? How about we make it our birthday (celebration) trip?
Awww...tsk tsk...Mom's are always like that. What we want always has to be a no on their end and complete with like a billion reasons why it's a no. lols...well you still have a few more months to convince her. so good luck! lols
LOL. Im sorry for your plight! She's just worried lah....
Damn that stinks, especially since I know how badly you wanna be in Indo =(
@ AA: Hah. Calendar clashes, yo. =\
@ Mel: I'll need all the good luck I can get :(
Thanks!
@ Flaz: She should just shut it.
@ J: I know, right? Sucks balls, I'm tellin ya.
Arn't you lucky!!! I would love to go to Indonesia! Actually I would love to go to Asia, I haven't been in that continent yet... I just entered a contest to win a trip to Vietnam, keep your finger crossed!
Ps... I am sooo NOT supriced to Andhari coming to the defens of her city!lol
Wow. Your mom's really got a hardon against Indonesia *chuckle*
@ Carina: I don't feel lucky at all! :( Good luck for Vietnam! I've been there, it's real cultural!
@ Gad: You don't say. Sigh.
I have *always* wanted to go to Indonesia... I say do it anyway!
@ LiLu: We'll see how it goes!
Girl, you're old enough. Go what your instincts dictate you. Ma will understand. Tell her, "I just want to visit my roots.." (put on your best teary-eyed expression for effect)..
P.S. I really thought you're Malaysian...until i read this post =)
What's important is you saving enough moolah so you don't have to depend on your folks for ANY expenses when it happens!
@ Amor: Malaysian? No way!!! haha.
@ izan: YES! That's what i was thinking. XD
i suks indochine jugs!
